Search for grants for studying abroad. Scholarships, grants, training, education abroad. Submission of documents and admission

Often we give up on our dreams only because we cannot financially cope with its implementation. This statement exactly applies to studying at prestigious foreign universities. Many choose a more modest alternative after learning about the cost of learning there. And someone receives grants for training and calmly achieves their lofty goal. You shouldn’t assume that these are geniuses, people with connections, or just lucky people. Each of us can receive a grant to study abroad, and not necessarily a student. How? We will tell you about this further.

About the grant

In 2014, a scholarship program called “Global Education” was launched in our country. In 2017 it was extended until 2025. The winner can receive an allowance of 2.76 million rubles annually. Moreover, the grant can be used not only to pay for training, but also to pay for your accommodation, food, and purchase of educational materials.

The official operator of the program is Skolkovo, and the official government customer is the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Almost every one of us can receive such a grant for training - the conditions for participation in the competition are simple:

  • Be a citizen of the Russian Federation.
  • Have no outstanding criminal record.
  • Pass the entrance examination to the selected foreign educational institution.

Do not forget about gratitude to the state - upon completion of training, the grant holder must work in the chosen specialty in Russia for three years. For violating the conditions or concealing information, there is a severe fine, three times the total amount of the grant.

Algorithm for receiving a grant

If you are planning to receive a grant to study abroad, then you need to act according to this simple algorithm:

  1. Choose a suitable university and field of study.
  2. Submit documents to this university and successfully pass the entrance examination.
  3. Register on the official website of "Global Education". Fill out a template application, attaching scans of the necessary documentation.
  4. Get an education, return to the Russian Federation and “repay your debt” to the state.

First stage: choosing a specialty and university

So, first you need to choose one of 32 specialties in 5 priority areas, which are represented in 288 universities in 32 countries of the world. Be careful: you can only receive a grant for training in master’s, postgraduate and residency programs! You can find a complete current list of specialties and universities in the officially approved list on the Global Education program website.

Let's look at some of the difficulties that may await you at this stage.

Problem Solution
Large selection of universities, countries - is the quality of education the same everywhere?

We hasten to assure you that all universities of the Global Education program are included in the top 300 best universities in the world.

Where to start - by choosing a university or specialty?

First, decide on your specialty, and only then decide on the university where the education is of higher quality. Statistics on the employment of its graduates and an analysis of the weight of the educational institution in the scientific world will help you in your choice.

What should the choice of specialty be based on?

The specialty should be chosen strictly from the list approved by the program. You must have a bachelor's or specialist's degree specifically in this field or a closely related field. As an alternative to the document, proven experience in this field is accepted.

Now let's move smoothly to the second stage.

Stage two: submission of documentation and admission

Let us clarify that grants for studying abroad for Russia are provided only if you successfully pass the entrance examination to the chosen university. The first step is to submit documents - their set depends on the specific country, university and study program. The standard kit is as follows:

  • international passport. Please note that it must not be expired - otherwise, renew the document before submitting the documentation.
  • Diploma. Typically, the admissions committee pays attention only to the average score in subjects, which is why applicants with C grades also have a chance.
  • Certificate of passing the language exam for the language in which the training program will be conducted. For example, IELTS tests are popular for English.
  • Additionally: motivation letter, resume, recommendations, portfolio(the latter is a necessary element for creative professions).

Third stage: dealing with risks

Now you have sent all the necessary documents, and here begins the most exciting thing in the pursuit of a training grant - the tedious wait for the results. Let's look at the problems that may await you at this stage.

  • Did not pass the language exam with the required score. Pay close attention to this test! Especially when receiving a grant, failing a language exam can ruin all your plans for entering a foreign university, so start preparing for it in advance and thoroughly.
  • The university takes a long time to respond to your application. The problem is that there is no specific response time for the university admissions committee - your application can be approved either in a week or in a few months. But the Global Education competition is urgent, so you need to upload your enrollment information before it ends. However, please note that it consists of four competitive selections. Therefore, if you didn’t make it to the first one, you can switch in your profile on the website to the second, third and last.

  • A visa will not be issued without a deposit for tuition.. The names of the winners are announced a month after the last selection. And the grants are transferred to them a month later. The issue of issuing a visa is resolved within 4-6 weeks. Therefore, there is a high chance that you will not have time to start your studies traditionally in September. There are two options here - either pay for the training at your own expense, or postpone its start. For some specialties, enrollment is not 1, but 2-4 times a year, so you can easily start acquiring knowledge when everything is ready.
  • Communication with the university is difficult or interrupted. If you can’t “reach out” to your chosen university, then contact the special agencies and educational centers that supervise the program. If they have a connection specifically with your university (the easiest way is if you receive a grant through their own channels, they can quickly receive all the data you need and significantly save valuable time.

Stage four: registration and application

Registration on the Global Education website is a simple process. Follow this algorithm:

  1. Be sure to upload your business photo.
  2. Fill in your personal information: passport number, Russian and foreign, education diploma. If the latter is not yet available, then enter an arbitrary combination of characters - you will enter the actual number upon receipt of the document. Upload your scientific works and publications.
  3. In the "Application" tab, indicate the selected program of study.
  4. There, add an estimate for training - first approximate, and then accurate - upon receipt of approval from the university, where the invoice will necessarily be registered. The maximum amount is 2.76 million rubles per year. In this case, the amount of associated expenses should not exceed 1.38 million rubles annually.
  5. After filling out, register in the system and be sure to receive a number in the electronic queue! When there is a competition for a place, the one who applied first gets it.
  6. After registration, upload everything marked with an asterisk to the “Documents” tab.

Fifth stage: you are the winner!

As soon as the competitive recruitment is completed, you must again wait agonizingly for a whole month - until the list of winners' names is published. If you are one of the lucky ones, then over the next 30 days you need to do the following: send the original scans that were uploaded to “Documents”, sign an agreement and provide a bank account to which the grant amount will be transferred.

An important point: you only account for training costs. They will not ask you for an estimate for related expenses, so without a shadow of a doubt you can compensate with this part of the grant for the visa fee, passing the language exam, air travel, etc.

Stage six: return to Russia

Naturally, the Russian Federation did not approve grants for charitable purposes; the country needs competent, qualified specialists. Why, after completing your studies, you need to not only return to your homeland within 30 days, but also get a job in one of the organizations collaborating with the Global Education program. Today, this list consists of 607 items, which you can familiarize yourself with in detail on the official website.

As you remember, the minimum term of your contract is 3 years. There are many universities, scientific associations, and leading industrial enterprises on this list, so we can safely talk about great freedom of choice. We advise you to think about a place of work 4-6 months before the end of your studies and discuss all aspects with your future employer in advance.

About the nuances

Receiving a grant to study in the USA is great news! But we hasten to sober you up a little with the following facts:

  • A grant is only money, not supervision. You will have to deal with obtaining a visa and looking for housing on your own. However, within the framework of the program, you can always count on free assistance from cooperating agencies, which will thoroughly advise you and help you within the limits of their competence. Their list is also available on the Global Education website.
  • Get ready to become a diligent student - if you are expelled from the university, you will pay a fine equal to three times the amount of the grant. But such measures are rare for foreign universities. If you fail an exam, you can always retake it. But for an additional fee.
  • If the training costs more than the equivalent of 2.76 million rubles, then you pay the remaining amount.
  • To receive a grant to study in Russia, you need unconditional admission from the university. To do this, you need to provide him with the original of your diploma and certificate of passing the language exam.

And finally, participation in the program is not limited to a certain age! Even if you graduated from a university “a hundred years ago”, but want to develop further, you have every right to become the winner of “Global Education”.

Foreign and Russian public and commercial organizations, educational institutions, state governments, international organizations and citizens provide grants (free transfer of funds) for training under the conditions stipulated by the grantors.

Depending on the conditions, grants cover full or partial costs of studying abroad; expenses related to accommodation, food, visa and air travel. They receive grants on a competitive basis.

To receive a grant for studying abroad, we recommend following the following algorithm.

Step 1. Determine your specialty and country of study

The applicant must have a good understanding of the chosen specialty, the topic of the thesis and (or) the progress of scientific research into the problem in this field of knowledge.

The choice of country in which you plan to study depends on your specialty. It is necessary to take into account the language conditions of the country of study. Some educational institutions offer instruction in English. To confirm your knowledge of a foreign language, you can take an international exam and receive a corresponding certificate.

Step 2: Select a granting organization

Grant providers can be divided into public and private. Government grant providers offer grants to a variety of educational institutions within their own country, while private organizations and foundations are not limited to a specific country.

Step 3. Select a grant, read its terms and conditions carefully

When choosing a grant, it is important to compare your capabilities in advance with the conditions stated by the organizers. Conditions for grants vary. So, in particular, the main criterion for issuing a grant may be academic performance or, for example, a difficult financial situation that does not allow the applicant to pay for education on his own.

Each grant has specific deadlines and deadlines for accepting applications from applicants.

Step 4. Prepare documents, submit an application for participation in a grant and go through the stages of the competition

The standard set of documents includes:

Application form according to the organization form;

Certified copies of the school certificate and grade book, translated into a foreign language;

International certificate confirming language knowledge;

Certificates or diplomas confirming achievements, merits and educational success;

An essay in which it is necessary to justify the motives and purposes of receiving a grant.

The specified list of documents is not exhaustive and can be expanded in accordance with the requirements of the organization issuing the grant.

The application form for participation in the grant is submitted before admission to the selected educational institution. The application is submitted either by hand, if the organization has a representative office in the Russian Federation, or by mail.

Note. Before submitting documents, we recommend that you consult with the organization’s specialists.

Note!

As a rule, grant applications submitted without a complete set of documents and/or submitted after the established application deadline will not be considered.

The grant competition may include several stages. Thus, after reviewing the application, the grant provider may offer the applicant a number of additional tasks, for example, undergoing an interview in a foreign language.

Step 5. Pass exams at an educational institution

If the grant provider is not the educational institution itself, then the applicant may be required to pass entrance exams. In case of failure in the entrance exams, the grant is withdrawn or may be provided next year.

If you do not have the time or desire to study all the universities and organizations that provide grants, you can turn to the services of an intermediary - most often a travel company, which, for a fee, will help you make your choice and collect the necessary documents.

Note!

According to the general rules, personal income tax must be paid on grants received for studying abroad, unless the source of such grants are organizations listed in the relevant lists approved by the Government of the Russian Federation (clause 6 art. 217Tax Code of the Russian Federation).
